The Maher meltdown
President Trump just penned his longest Truth Social post ever. The topic of the president’s essay? Not the midterm election or the Middle East conflict. It’s about… his complicated relationship with an HBO comedian.
“Bill: Don’t call anymore,” Trump wrote to Bill Maher toward the end of an emotional 1,323-word diatribe that started by calling Maher a “complete and total loser” in all caps.
Media editor Andrew Kirell checked, using a handy CNN database, and confirmed the essay was nearly twice as long as Trump’s second-longest post.
Trump was clearly very hurt by Friday’s episode of “Real Time,” Maher’s first since dining with the president at the White House on October 15.
The following day, Trump said it was a “great dinner” and said Maher “likes me a lot more than people understand, and I actually like him.” But evidently, that opinion changed after Trump tuned into Maher’s show.
Trump concluded, “I never watched your show much, but I will never watch it again, because it is nothing more than FAKE NEWS.” (It’s comedy, but I digress.)
At some points in the rant, Trump sounded disappointed. “You’re a hopeless guy,” he wrote to Maher. At other points, Trump sounded vengeful. “I’m going to have the Republicans not cover you anymore,” he wrote.
