What does the future of American elections look like?

We’re starting to get a bit of a hint, perhaps.

During a press conference in Arizona last Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said her department should have a role in election security — and she pushed for a national voter I.D. requirement.

Noem said, “When it gets to election day, we’ve been proactive to make sure we have the right people voting, electing the right leaders to lead this country.”

The right people voting? Electing the right leaders? What is Noem saying, exactly?

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl called Noem’s comments “extraordinary.”
