A six-letter Chicago Sun-Times headline succeeds as writing, design and communal celebration all at once

The season of journalism awards is behind us, and, once again, I have not won a Pulitzer or the Nobel Peace Prize.

Placing my resentment aside, I would like to honor a bit of writing that has not yet won an award. Still, in my immodest opinion, it ranks among the most scintillating gems of short writing ever created to head a consequential news story.

It’s a headline.

It may be the headline of the century.

It came out of Chicago.

It is rendered in six letters: two words and a mark of punctuation.

As if you couldn’t guess, here it is: DA POPE!
